These unique one of a kind dangle earrings remind me of prickly pears. The earrings are handcrafted from copper sheet, vitreous enamel (pigmented powdered glass) and sterling silver.
First, the shape is cut out of a sheet of copper. It is then hand filed to remove any rough edges.
Holes are drilled and filed smooth. Copper is hand dimpled.
Vitreous enamel is sifted onto the copper and fired in a kiln at 1460° Farenheit. The process is repeated multiple times on each side with different colors to fuse the glass to the copper and create the design. The pieces are etched for a matte finish and the sides are sanded.
Sterling silver wire is used to create the ear wires and rest of design. The ear wires are 20 gauge. Soldered and oxidized with liver of sulfur. It is buffed and a round bur is used to smooth ends of ear wires.
Bitter green enamel is used. The enamel piece is approximately .1.5" wide x 1.125" long. They hang about 2.25" including ear wires. Lightweight.
The earrings are packaged in a cotton filled gift box and a padded envelope.
